A 55-year-old roofer was hurt after falling off a ladder while working on a school renovation project. The fall left him with injuries to his neck, back, and right foot, injuries that would go on to affect his daily life and ability to work. The defendants fought hard to avoid responsibility. They claimed the worker had jumped off the ladder rather than fallen. They argued his injuries were pre-existing, not caused by the accident. They even tried to say a prior back injury he’d had was identical to the one from this fall, as if nothing new had happened at all.
